Spalted Tamarind + Macassar Ebony design opportunity

I decided to try some of the spalted tamarind I received in the July PITH. Things were going well, until the lower part of the lower blank decided to let go. I was standing there by my lathe, starting at the brass tube. Rats.

Then I remembered a term I heard either here or on another wood turning forum: "design opportunity!"

I'm not totally happy with how the repair worked, but I'm glad I was able to salvage the pen.

It's happened to us all. Something that I have done to help sell the "I meant to do that" is to match the whoops bands on both tubes (or make them symetrical on single tube pens).
