Got this from discards of someone's firewood.
The accent wood is some sort of brown wood I got at Woodcraft from the Clearance pile.

Julia, I've just seen a set that was very similar to this, but not as nice[:D]

Just a hand saw. I jammmed the tool rest up against the chuck to hold the piece steady while cutting the slot. I filed it down with a hand file and then sanded, seraled and finished it.
