This is a first for me. The wood for this pen came from a Bradford Pear which was mostly dead that I felled for a friend. I say mostly dead because it was standing and dead looking at the top, but it had live shoots coming off the bottom. Whatever the case, it was in bad shape. I've turned a couple of bowls and vases from a bit further down the tree, but the wood for this pen and another came from the most dead part at the top of the tree. Dead enough that it was pretty dry. I like the way the spalting outlines the clip. I'm going to give it to my friend. I think he'll get a kick out of it.

I don't like making pens out of non-stabilized wood. The finish isn't perfect, but it's as close as I'm going to get with this particular piece of wood.
