I like this pen so much I thaught it needed a thread of its own.

Its a simple pen on a plain kit but the timber speaks for its self.
The kit has been lengthened by fitting longer upper and lower tubes, which gives it a tall look and feel.

the timber is rasbery jam, which is a form of wattyl that grows in western australia, it smells like rasbery jam when cut, the fresher it is the stronger the smell....yep realy like rasbery jam.

I realy like the striking sapwood transition, couldnt have come out in a better place.

typical of many wattyls this stuff is hard even in the sapwood, it makes a nice durable pen.....Hmmm... I might keep this one..... Naaa ..I want one with a ball clip, and a bit shorter, its way tooo long to fit in most of my pockets.
I have 3 more pieces... I must chase some more up.

cheers

Nice job, I really like the contrast between the heartwood and sapwood.
What type of finish did you use?

Beautiful pen!! I must find some of that wood. Raspberry jam is my favorite. I really pour it on. My wife says I like peanutbutter with my raspberry jam.[:D]

the finish is Shelawax Glow, about 4 coats with a rub of EEE in after the second coat.
thanks chaps.
Rasbery jam is nice... it has some nice depth of lustre too, that is hard to capture in photo.

I have to make better arrangements for my photos.

cheers
