Well if you have watched any of the things I have turned, you will notice I like the unusual. lol. This blank just goes to show that maybe I need to pick smaller in the future. :) :) I think it would generate a more consistent look.

I always appreciate C & C

Wondering now though... I used a LOT of think CA to keep things steady while turning. then used food coloring.. thinking..maybe I should have soaked it in food coloring BEFORE the first application of CA... hmmm

Anyone else have any experience with this?

Brian, that was about the worst pun humor I've heard/read in weeks! Shame on you! You're probably a laugh a minute in person.

wyone - I'm thinking stain first would allow far better penetration & saturation. I often use a seal coat of shellac on wood before I apply stain. It helps reduce blotching but it will tend to lighten the stain effect. Since blotching is not an issue with cobs, stain first sounds like the way to go.
