These are my 3rd-9th pens completed. I setup a light tent to try to get some decent picks, Any tips on the pics would be great. I am using a Nikon coolpix 7900, I know not the best camera out there but its what I have for now and it works great for everything else.
The pens look good until you get to the tip then they start to get a little blury, what would I have to change on the camera to stop that?

curly maple, I think would have came out better with a darker backround but I only had white and the time.

all pens are slimlines, I got them from woodturningz.com
Word of caution, I got some black enamel kits and the black is starting to flake off and gold is starting to show, I have 4 kits I can't use because of this. I have contacted Ryan and he is trying to work something out.

All pens are finished with ca/blo and shellawax.
Thanks for looking
Jason

Nice group of pens Jason.
Keep up the good work.
I have read that with the light tent if you take a small watt light and shine it directly onto the pens it can help show off the finish, even seen refernce to using a flaslight for this.
I have not tried this, but perhaps someone elso can elaborate.
The pens look great though.[:)]

jason, great looking start on some beautiful pens.
as for your camera work......the reason the tip looks fuzzy is because it's closer to the camera than the rest of the pen. as close as we get for taking pics, the 'depth of field', which is the range that things will be in focus is very small. you could either arrange the pen so that it's sidways to the camera, or go into your adjustments and increase your 'f' stop.....
or like the other guys said......keep taking pics until something turns out right
keep them coming!

You've got to love the good old slimlines. Nice work.[:D]
I'm pretty rubbish at taking pics and a little trick I was shown was to take the pic with the pen straight. Then use something like Picassa2 ( nice free software ) to tilt the pen, then crop the pic.
It's an easy solution till you master your camera.[;)]

Thanks for the feedback. The 2nd pen was actually a gift for my friends dad who made me a handmade longbow from scratch(from a log) with no power tools for Christmas.
I will try some more angles on my next pics to see if I can stop the blur on the tip.

I was asked how much I would sell these pens for and was not sure how to answer, i thought $20.00 was a fair price, what do you think?

The way I sell is
Cost of pen kit + Cost of blank (min $3.00) X 2 + $10.00
$5.25 kit + $4.95 blank = $10.20 X2 = $20.40 +$10.00= $30.40
Will sell it for $29.95 (sounds better than $30.40)
