I experimented with address labels under my CA glue over the weekend, and had some good results.
Only thing you need to make sure of is turning really thin to provide room for the CA to build up to the correct diameter. When i am finished, there is more CA glue than there is wood. Its a much thicker layer.
Below are:
1) osage orange with a cali flag, then maple burl and osage orange stripes for the nib side. Slimline hardware shaped similar to the Russline.
2) Black palm and white pearl acrylic segmented. Just the bear and star from the flag on the acrylic. Patriot nickel hardware.
3) Bocote and white pearl acrylic segmented. Old school Padre Friar on this one. El grande gold hardware (rollerball). Bocote is intentionally turned 90 degrees each segment hoping for a less symmetrical grain to the eye.
4) My first celtic knot, Bol. Rosewood i found in my cabinet, segmented with maple burl. Center band is maple, rosewood, maple. Slimline black hardware shaped similar to the "Fatline" I believe.
I saw these celtic knot pens and looked in the library. The guy uses a table saw, which I do not have. After seeing that, the idea made more sense in my head anyway. I saw a few guys mentioning 60 degree angles so I set my miter saw to thirty and gave it a shot. Stuck with two bands since it was my first attempt.
