Some flavors of TruStone just aren't very enjoyable to work with. The Sumi with Black flavor is one of those, at least for me. They sure are pretty once finished, though. The Venus kit on the ladies' really out-blinged the Gents' Triton, so I turned a matching finial for the top.

Thanks for the comments. I was pretty pleased with the way they turned out.

Neither, really. It's brittle, so it tears out when you drill it, unless you crank the speed WAY down or stop-drill. I turn on a metal lathe with carbide inserts, but I can't imagine HSS turning tools wouldn't work fine.

You certainly don't want to try to take a pen apart after its assembled-don't ask. It is a bit more difficult to polish as it is harder than most other materials you're likely to turn. Cross-sanding is particularly important. Every flavor I've tried so far turns has it's own little quirks.
