It would appear you have the same problems with the clip as I found one one that I have. If you look on the side of the clip what do you see? ridges? From the photo you can clearly see deep scratch marks on yours.

That's a beauty! The nice thing about snakewood cracking is that it fills in so nicely with sanding dust. It is usually hard to see the repair once it is filled in.:)
