My first time ever turning snakewood today and I have to say, I now know why it is so expensive! This wood is beautiful and finishes like shiny plastic.. On the copper sierra kit, this combination makes for an elegant pen IMHO..

The next one is a Birds eye maple Americana Twist I turned for an old friend. I promised him one a month ago, and just got around to turning it.

As always, comments and critiques are appreciated..

The copper and snakewood do seem to go together. Nice finish! In my part of the country copperhead snakes.....ugly!!

Very nice snakewood, i agree with the copper kit makes it elegant.

I am sure when your friend sees that birdseye maple the delay wont matter so much. Thats a real beauty too.

It did crack when I drilled it but only a little and CA covered it right up.

It likes to crack weeks or months after the pen is complete.

BTW, both pens look really nice.

Is there any way to keep it from cracking? What other wood species do that? Thats a real shame too becuase it is amazing wood.
Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Well done Brian! I really like that Snakewood on the Copper Kit too. Nice combo. Your friend should be very pleased with his pen as well.

the color combo is good..good luck on the snakewood in the future and I hope the copper plating (not real durable) holds up...maybe it belongs in a collection? vs. used everyday? but sure is pretty
