Back in the spring I had to trim the rose bushes..apparently it's a man job, even though I don't care about roses. One of them had a big dead stem and when I went to trim it down the root came with it. Big enough for a single barrel pen, so I tossed it in the shop. Here it is, cast with some pink and white. It's pretty cool looking. It is almost like a walnut burl. The root was hollow in the center along with all the root intersections ..it's like all the heartwood rots away or maybe it isn't there to begin with.

Nice looking pen Jeff. I have a rose root drying in my basement from one I cut out of my front yard last summer. Just havent gotten around to casting it yet. Hope it looks as good as yours.
