I like the 30 caliber pens around here and have made a couple. I however, shoot a smaller caliber. My favorite rifle is a 223 Remington. I made this pen by drilling out a 52 gr BTHP match bullet for the nose. The body is walnut with a deer antler CB.

Looks great!
I don't have the patience to drill the nib,that certainly solves teh problem of using smaller calibers and not getting the OEM nib to fit.

Drilling the nib was easier with the holow point. On the match bullets the hollow point is almost like a pilot drill. I did drill a larger diameter from the base to allow for some clearance. You keep inspiring me and I'll try to drop an idea here and there.
