Slimline no center band

Just to see what it would look like, and to see if I could.
Next time I'll keep it smoother in the middle. Think that would look better.

No band is elm wood and the banded one is cocobolo.

A hint....Turn the top slightly larger than the bottom. It makes it look like a cap, like the pen on the right below.

No, it is a mulberry "crown" not a root. Mulberry crowns are the knobs of scar tissue formed on the ends of major limbs when the trees are pollarded (all branches cut off) every year.

I make all my slimlines now without the center band. Nice start.

Another hint: make the lower barrel longer than the upper barrel. How much longer? Start with 1/4 inch and adjust to your liking. The longer lower barrel with Sharon's hint of a larger upper barrel makes for a really nice looking pen.
