This is the first pen I turned. It is a gold plated slim style pen. I used zebrawood and finished it with HUT crystal coat. If anyone is familiar with high friction polish I have a few questions on it.

Thank You,

Nice pen. Funny how most of us start with a Slimline and either wax or a friction polish as our first pen. As for your questions, other than you can decrease the drying time of friction polish by taking a paper towel to the polish and build up heat by friction and dry the shellac faster and that repeated applications will build up a thicker and glossier finish to a certain extent, that is all I can tell you. Others here will be better able to answer your questions on that, So ASK AWAY.

Polish

When I was applying the polish the pen began to smoke. It didn't cause any trouble, but I was wondering if it should smoke?

Thank You,

High Friction Polish

I,ve never seen a pen smoke when high friction polish is being applied. It got so hot I had to use a TIG welding finger so it wouldn't burn. Thank you for your answer I really appreciate it.

Roger, the finish looks great. I don't personally care for the large profile slims, but that is an awesome first pen--much better than mine (also a slim).

nice pen. Slimlines are great for experimenting with shape and allow for a lot of creativity in that aspect. more so than a lot of the other, thicker, pen kits. That I think is their best quality. And great for people with smaller hands.

I made four slimlines as my first 4 pens as I started learning. I stopped making them though because I am not fond of the cross style refills, and pretty much refuse to make anything with a Cross refills unless specifically requested. The Parker style refills offer SO much more variety and quality in the ink refills available. It is just a shame that there aren't many "slim" kits that take Parker refills. They are just a fatter refill with a bigger minimum tube size, unfortunately.
