I'm an avid bowler. There is a bowling ball company who gives the coverstock on there balls a scent. A friend of mine asked if I could make him a scented pen from an old ball that he doesn't use any more. Now my shop smells like blueberries. What do you think?

This is a high end bowling ball and it is excellent on the lathe. Most of the cheap balls have a very thin and brittle coverstock, very hard to get enough material to make a pen.

I used an abrasive cut off saw to make a slit in the coverstock, then used hammer and chisel to bust it apart.

Nice job and great new material for pens. Keep thinking outside the box..

Actually it was very popular in the early 2000's. Made MANY pens from bowling ball material, in fact there was a lady who sold "bowling ball blanks" here on IAP. Tried to track her down, unsuccessfully about 2010.

Sold well!!

Thanks. Got a few bowling balls from back in the day that are doing nothing but collecting dust. Been wanting to try cutting them, but the bandsaw deal just doesn't appeal to me.

Thought of that. Way too much work just for slimline blanks. I'll have to dig them out some time before the summer is up, and see what I've got to work with.
