I just finished a Cigar Pen made from a piece of Royal Poinciana wood. The tree came down in my area from hurricane Matthew. The sapwood is a cream color but seasons into a bright yellow , which is a great contrast with the brown heartwood . I dried the blank first in the microwave ....don't tell wifey !!! Great wood to work with ...light weight and sands, finishes well.
The second picture is a piece of Sumac from my shop.

Beautiful pen Joe! Yes, the colors are very striking. It's nice to use wood from your own property.

The Sumac is also beautiful. The blank I used came from the Estate blank fundraiser I am doing for IAP - they are probably 10 years old, many have beautiful streaks of color.

Hope all is well with you.
