This strange piece is Karri Burl from LeeTrees. Lee had not considered turning one of these burls into pen blanks, but I convinced him otherwise...at least for a few blanks. Amazing colors throughout this burl with lots of voids, some of which I chose to leave open as a testament to the hardiness of this Aussie Tree. [8D]
