Thanks to Bruce and Ron for some helpful thoughts on my first posting of this pen. I replaced the CB with Purpleheart and also made a new finial with Ash and PH on an angle and tried to make the angle match the pen. I think it matches pretty well and is shorter than the standard gold finial.

No excuse!

It can be done with a pull saw. You don't need a perfect 45 degree cut, one cut will mirror the other. If you practice a little you can get a pretty good cut with a pull saw. A little sandpaper to smooth things out and your ready. I've seen some pretty intricate work form Japanese woodworkers who do not own a single power tool. Give it a try, you might just surprise yourself at what you can do and you'll have something that you'll be extra proud of.
