The idea for this rolling pin came from Woodturning Design, Iss. # 1, Spring 2004. It was my first real piece of turning after I got my lathe. To give you some idea, the rolling pin is ± 22" from the ends of the handles. It took 3rd place in our end of year turning club competition.

So once I became interested in turning pens this one was a test. I glued the blank some time ago, then threw it in the scrap wood box thinking it would never make the cut. The woods are walnut, cherry, maple, and purple heart.

I pulled it out the other day and thought "what the hey, might as well turn it and see what becomes of it".
The pen is finished with 6 coats of thick CA which didn't shine up too nicely, so I put another 6 coats of thin CA on it. I wet mm'd it with 4,000 to 12,000 grade mm after it had set for a day to cure.
A couple of coats of ren wax finished it up.
