I was nervous about whether this would hold together since the ratio of rice to resin is fairly high, but it didn't seem to be an issue:

This is a wild rice blend. I have a white rice blank that I'm going to use to try and answer the perennial "wedding pen" question :)

Thanks for looking.

WOW! I have a friend who owns a Chinese restaurant, I was looking to make her a Bamboo pen but rice would be better![:0][:p]

I like the idea and that pen looks great. Was there any trouble keeping the rice from all floating to the top?

I had some initial concerns about that but no, the rice didn't float. I did have to stir carefully, however, to make sure the resin penetrated between all the grains.

Thanks.

Nice pen. Try making the blanks with alumilite, it holds the rice together better (in my opinion) and is less prone to shatter.
Here are some I made with Black and Red Chinese rice and alumilite.
