Another desk set on commission:

Redwood burl (African Blackwood pen sheath & solid brass clock):

The Gentleman is one of the nicest pieces of burl of any kind I've done (CA finish):

Even the back (and bottom!) is gorgeous and the pen has the same
dark "flaming" that the base shows on the back:

Finish on the base piece is tung oil / linseed oil / urethane and a final top coat of Shellawax, buffed. Clock insert is from Steebar (they're wonderful folks).

Happy Holidays everybody,
Nancy

Absolutely beautiful, Nancy. Where did you find the black insert to hold the pen in the base?

Happy Holidays to you and yours. Mike

Mike,

The black insert is an African Blackwood cylinder that was turned and drilled for that purpose; as the redwood is fairly soft even in burl form, I thought some protection was needed for the wear the slot for the pen may take. Plus, it looked nice with the black clock face. :)

Thanks everybody for your comments! Unfortunately, the set was done for a family member, so I didn't make any money on it. [B)] But, money's not everything. [;)]
