Fred, thanks for asking. It is from Africa. I've included a link below to "The Woodworkers Source". They have excellent descriptions of many woods by area along with properties like weight, hardness, workability, etc.

That is a great site and I also spend way to much time on it. I have ordered from them and do send excellent quality of wood. A good resource as well for those who are starting out.
