I have made this for one of my neighbours. He is giving it to one of his mates for his 50th birthday. His mate drives the XPT which is one of our long distance railway passenger trains.

The entire work is made from a sleeper that he must have traveled over many times.

I have left the bottom of the stand natural as I got it as well as one end where the original rail spike went into it. The top has had two rails and spikes inlaid to represent the rail line.

The pen is gentlemen's and the finish is 20 coats of WOP and two stage buffed

Thank you everyone.

The timber is red gum Eucalyptus camaldulensis.

The person I get the sleepers from normally sell them for fire wood. I rescued a few more from the pile yesterday will a lot of curl in them.

Sadly the wooden sleeper is on the way out being replaced by concrete or steel
