Hello Everyone,

There is a story behind this pen. A couple of weeks ago we had a fund raising dinner. This was to raise money for Spectacles to be given to patients in Vanuatu ( Pacific Island). Just a bit of background, for the last 6 years I have been going with an organisation called Healthcare Christian Fellowship and we do voluntary medical work in the poor pacific nations. I have been going to Vanuatu, but we also go to PNG and have been to Fiji. Next year Tonga may happen as well. Anyways we do it free and as part of this camp, we have vision checks and an eye specialist comes along too. So we provide free specs to patients who need it. It is just amazing to see them get their vision back! These are really remote islands and often no doctors at all at the most just nursing staff. So the clinics are very well received and attended. This year we saw 1500 patients in 4 days.

So I prayed and asked the Lord to show me what would be a suitable pen. I ended up doing 5 pens. This is one of them. I liked the sword and could promote it as representing the sword of the spirit. The starting bid on the pen was 100 Australian Dollars. I would have been thrilled if it sold for 100, but always hoped for more for the sake of the people of Vanuatu.

So the quiz is :)
a. What timber is this? (probably very easy for most people)- George (robutacion) can't answer obviously

b. What did it sell for? (harder!!)

I just thought lets have some fun, and I am interested to hear the responses. Hope this is ok and not against the rules of the forum. If it is please tell me off!

Cheers,
Sean

Hey Glen.............The STARTING BID was 100 AUD.

For the great cause you are sponsering........I would guess 500 AUD.
I have no clue what this would be USA..........I would hope that it would be close to $1,000 USA

Bless you Sean for what you are doing.

OK, I can help you with that, as per today, 1 Australian dollar worth .90 cents American so, if you ever wanted to buy stuff from Australia, this is the time.

I buy a lot of stuff from the USA and at the moment, I'm getting a little squeezed however, was not that long ago the the Australian dollar was $1.10 to $1 US to, it takes turns...!

So $500 Aussie dollar's worth $450 US

Cheers

Amboyna Burl is correct and Glen got that right first. As far as the amount goes, someone is very very close now, and if by tomorrow morning no one gets it, we will say the closest figure wins! Thanks everyone for participating, good on you! Going to bed now, it's almost midnight

While I can wish for the larger price for the cause. I will place my guess at $600 AUD.

Congrats on a fantastic pen, I hope it fetched a good price. I don't know about everyone but I would like the price in both AUD and USD

Thanks everyone, while I slept, Wayne you hit the jackpot! It sold for AUD 600 which is 537 US dollars. We ended up raising 10,000 dollars that night. All my pens did well. Today I will put up another pen done in Knights Armour, with South Indian Rose Wood, which also went for 600 dollars. Thanks to all who attempted, it was great.
