No, that's the natural color. The blank wasn't even stabilized. I recently bought a box of 100 blanks and this one just happened to be one of the first few I grabbed. I've gone through 5 or 6 of them so far. I look forward to using one that has a mix of heartwood and sapwood.

The pen probably isn't quite that red in person, but it does give some amboyna a run for its money.
