Pleasantly Surprised!

I placed an order the other day for a couple of Clear Buckeye Burl blanks. Well, guess I wasn't paying attention to the part # and ordered the Black Buckeye Burl blanks instead. When they were delivered they looked like to sticks of charcoal, sort of felt that way too. I thought about sending them back and getting the correct blanks, but I really didn't want to fool with that headache, so I decided to turn one. WOW, was I surprised. I think they turned out beautifully. My photography does not do it justice. Guess it goes to show, you just never know until you turn it. This is Black Buckeye Burl on a Platinum European.

Yep, did the same thing recently on a blank for a civil war pen. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise also. Nice looking pen.
