I am too old and too married to play around with women so I played around pens this morning after turning some pens for the troops. I attended the Virginia Woodturning Symposium recently and saw some demos on painting and texturing. I decided to try some of the techniques on a pen. The Gatsby was made using cupping cutters in a dremel, luminescent paint and gilders paste. Not a great success but interesting. I normally do not do contoured slimlines but decided to play around with some contours and birds eye maple.

Don Ward's book, "Turning Modified Slimline Pens- Beyond the Basics" is great and has loads of shapes, techniques, materials, etc. I highly recommend it, got mine at Woodcraft.
I know what you mean about getting old. My father and I had a talk about smoking, drinking and chasing women. He said you can smoke and drink when you are too old to chase women. Getting close!
