Jack Rich provided me with this stabilized pine cone and 308 cartridge. I made a custom center band and finial from a mahogany blank also provided by Jack. Used a flap sander to turn the pinecone and finished with odorless CA glue. I really like this pen and might make it my everyday carry pen.

Definitely a 'cone'! Love doing them, just hate the amount of CA needed to do the type cones I have(Afghan). Wanted to do some stabilizing on them, but heat makes them open(that drops the seeds)....so, seeing you have done one stabilized(hmmm?)

-Were there any seeds remaining inside?
-Did the stabilizing resin make it all the way inside to the 'core'?
-What kind of cone is it?

Cones work great on bullets, and it's one of the few types of material I could sell bullet pens! Better then antler too!!!

Congrats on a great turning!!!!!!!

The cone came from Georgia, the resin penetrated into the core and I only used CA for finishing. Possibly longleaf pine?

Of course I don`t know for a fact but it appears to be a long leaf pine. I have done a great many of those only stablizing with ca. Here is a photo of a cone.
