A Perfect Mistake

Before gluing I dry tested the fit of both tubes in this Perfect Fit. They were a little snug, but no more than I have successfully glued before on PFs. Alas, on both barrels the tube jammed before being fully inserted and I couldn't press them in. The fix on the lower barrel was a small piece of scrap antler. On the upper barrel I had to trim the protruding brass down to correct length before pressing on the center band. The top barrel is a little short, but the pen works like a champ. I think I'll charge $10 more than I normally do for these, just because of the aggravation. BTW, Buckeye Burl with CA finish.

Nice looking pen !!! . Did you use CA to glue in the tubes ... hence the short working time ?

Yes, I did. Hindsight being 20/20 I probably should have used epoxy or gorilla glue.

I have found that if the blank is warm - ie I attempt to glue the tube in too soon after drilling - the CA will set up rather quickly.
