One of my good friends deployed to the Middle East last week. I am really happy with how it turned out. This is only the third pen I have made.

I wanted to do something to honor his sacrifice, and made him the following pen. The woods from the top down: Teak from the USS North Carolina, Alaskan Yellow Cedar (I picked it up of the beach after hurricane Harvey last year,) unidentified wood from the mill at Winter Quarters, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and pine from barracks flooring at Fort Bragg. The bottom piece is Macassar Ebony, with the end grain used as the sides:). I added gold flake to my epoxy between the different woods, to make each piece feel separate from the pieces around it.
