...some Deer Antler(Copy/pasted from my Facebook post):
For some Sacramento, California friends. The dark trails you see on the last three to the right are beetle tracks in the wood. The beetles back-fill their trails with "saw-dust" :wink: then when the wood is finished the sawdust absorbs the finish and hardens into the dark trails.
From L2R: 1&2-Titanium Gold dressed in Mule Deer Antler, 3-Black Titanium dressed in Mule Deer Antler, 4-Titanium Gold dressed in Whitetail Deer Antler, 5-Titanium Gold dressed in Oak tobacco stick, 6-Chorme dressed in Hickory tobacco stick, 7&8- Titanium Gold dressed in Hickory tobacco stick. The dark area at the bottom of the first is a little bit of the external surface of the antler, pen/knife maker's refer to it as "bark" and is purposely exposed when possible.
All the pens are finished with CA, 5 coats on the Antler, 8-10 on the wood. Micro meshed to 12000 then a coat of Ren' wax.
