A while ago Jonathon Brooks and I did a swap and I got one of his new alumilite blanks. I started a pen but got sidetracked and just now remembered what it was I was going to do. I'm happy it came back to me because this is really a nice combination of materials.

I shaped this pen like the Nakaya Neo Standard, but shortened it at least a half inch less than the original. The sapphire stuff is a PR called Royal Metallic Blue from Exotic Blanks. I think Jonathon calls this blank Iridescent Opal. Whatever it is, it's pure artistry. Thanks Jonathon!

Length uncapped 5 1/8" (128 mm)

Length posted 5 7/8" (148 mm)

Cap diameter 17.8 mm
Barrel diameter 16.4
Section diameter 13.4

Weight 27 g

Beautiful combination of materials! Love the opal with the blue - and the blue looks liquid with your fantastic finishing. Wish I could invite myself over to see how you do it.:)

The beer is always cold, Chris. Come anytime.

Actually, there's nothing special about the way I finish a pen--just micro mesh and plastic polish. However, I do take pictures under lights rather that with a tent. That gives me good reflections.

All brought together with your trademark of flawless craftsmanship!!:) Robert...just wanted to ask if the sapphire piece at the lower end of the barrel is a threaded addition? Again, beautiful job!! Very nice. I like the look of the sapphire metallic blue better than the opal, though. (Go figure...)

Truly stunning! The metallic blue goes so well. I'm happy to see you putting that blank to good use. Your pics are also great with it. I can never get that much color to show in mine.

Thanks Jonathon. That blank is just amazing! Can't take my eyes off it. There are so many things I can do with it, my mind is spinning.:)
