One of the nicest things about working with spalted wood is that you really don't know what you are going to get until you are at the final dimensions... this piece is red oak with spalted red oak end cap, center ring and 45 degree lower band...
The spider web design at the clip end is mirrored on the other side.. what a nice surprise when I got to that point.. The 45 degree accent band on the lower end came out a little lighter than I would have liked, but again you never know what you are going to get with spalted wood..

You got to let us in on how you make it look as though the pen is levitating above the background. The pens that you make are real eye-poppers. I will attain your lever someday, but then you will have advanced and set the bar even higher.
