When I first thought it might be fun to turn a pen I bought a kit and all the "stuff" they said I needed. I spend several hours looking at all the styles to choose the one I wanted. It was a cigar pen and it came out nice. You won't find a picture of it though. It is far from perfect. Now when I look at pen kits I find myself looking for which retailer offers the best quantity discounts. It is like I just had my first beer and liked it so much I am buying vodka by the case!.

Anyhow, here is what I just gave my wife for Christmas. It is Bethlehem Olive Wood (Thanks Monty!!)

I know it is not the most popular option here, but I chose a basic wax polish for the handles. I wanted it to feel like wood, not plastic.

Well done.......durability is one of the reasons behind overwhelming preferance for CA finishes.

Adjusted the expousre on your pic a bit, show off the good work you've done......

Welcome Dick! The surface texture gives that wood "feel". I always do a CA finish, but as a last step, I use 0000 steel wool to give the finish a satin sheen instead of the hard plastic shine of the CA. It is just as durable, just looks and feels more like wood.
