Here's one I made from some wood that I bought from Draken. It is reclaimed Crib Damn wood from the Rappahannock River and is believed to be aged some where between 1650 and 1854. It's oak and I'm not a big fan of oak because of the open grain, but I really like the color. I took some close up so you could see the grain and color. I didn't add anything to make it darker. I just turned it and finished it with CA. Before I finished it you could look into the grain and see specks of minerals that looked like glitter. Anyways, let me know what you think.

The white stuff in this photo is CA, not the minerals.

I'm with ya all the way, les--I can't get too excited about oak, either; having said that, your pen came out spectacular, I really like its look. Now, if only a FEW entry doors, kitchen cabinets, bookshelves, hall trees, coatracks, wall mirrors, blah-blah had oak that looked like THAT, just maybe they could win me over! Good job!

Les,

That pen came out looking great! I haven't yet turned any of the oak, but will soon. Thank you for all of the detailed photos. And those minerals you saw in it is what kept killing my bandsaw blades. [V] Too bad I don't have any more of the oak for sale, just the pine.
