my pens are done by hand, no lathe, i use a 1/2'' dewalt drill.
a flaring tool, torch. and what ever is handy to complete a task

this is a brass pilot g2 07 pen. i fitted into 2 300 mag bullet cases

do not get me wrong, If I had a lathe, I would use it, i have the prettiest piece of 60 year old chestnut,,,just screaming to be something

Very interesting work and a crazy way to do it. If budget is a problem here is an idea. Go to diffrent action places. People that buy the whole house. It sounds crazy but you can get some small bench top lathe's for less than fifty bucks. Some times in great condition. Also some times middle aged people end up with there fathers tools after they pass on, and they need to get things cleaned out. Most are greatful the tools will continued to be used. Cost is sometimes zero.
