Found a piece of wood called Chechen. I had never heard of it, it was a very beautiful piece of wood, very highly figured. Here's the first pen from it. It turned and finished very nicely. IMG_0916.JPGIMG_0917.JPG

That's a beautiful pen !!

Chechen is a lovely wood to work with. . I have used it many times over many years. . I like it because it is fairly dense and (for the pieces I have used) relatively non-porous so that you don't have pockets on the rounded pen surfaces for the sanding dust to collect in. . Chechen also seems to take a CA finish very well ... and because there are no (or minimal) pores/pockets for CA sanding dust to collect in the finishing goes quite quickly.

Bubinga and Padauk don't enjoy this advantage, in my experience.

Chechen is a wood that every pen maker should be aware of.

And Desert Ironwood is another.
