I am new to Pen Turning and thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I have included photos of my first projects. I made all but 1 using slimline kits. I have included a few inlay attemps.

The above pens were made of the following: Bolivia Rosewood, Olivewood, Amboina Burl, Purple Heart, Paduke, Big Leaf Maple, Zebra, and Canary. Turning my own center-band gives me more flexibility in pen design.

Your feedback would be appreciated. Thanks again.

The process is very straight forward. I drill and store scrap partial blanks.

Cut the partial blank (centerband blank) 1/8 inch larger than the slimline band that comes with the kit.

After squaring the centerband blank it goes on the lathe between the 2 blanks instead of the 7mm bushing( blanks are at the sanding stage)

Turn the centerband blank to size, then sand as 1 unit.

I hope I was of help.
