My wife's quilting club has a show coming up and she asked me to make a pen for the silent auction.

I turned a maple pen and put a couple of grooves in it for wrapping quilting thread around it. Looked good until it cracked while inserting on of the pen parts.[xx(]

So I made another pen, only this time I used a piece of cocobolo. It's prettier anyway :D

Great idea with the quilting thread. I like both pens as well. Did it crack where the thread was wound around the grooves???

Thanks everyone.

I'll probably try the quilt one again. Either the way I did before, or with a 'flag' look instead, or both [:)]

It cracked when I was pressing in the coupler because I forgot to ream out the end first. Live and learn.

There are some really neat color threads out there, so I'll probably try a few different things. May end up using waterlux though instead of a friction polish.

It's only wood. Grows on trees [:)]

Its a shame the first one cracked I think the ladies would have liked it. Maybe good enough to have ordered some more.
