I glued up a series of laminates the other night and turned this one for my oldest son's upcoming birthday. I don't know whether to call it horizontal or vertical, but I cut a bunch of walnut, birch, cherry, maple and QS white oak into 1/4" strips and glued them up to make 3/4" blanks (two species each). Okay, so they aren't as spectacular as Eagle's bentwood, but I've got some ideas for something similar if I can find the time. [}:)] This one is walnut and birch.

Thanks for looking.

Nice!! I've done some similar one's and like the look. Besides glueing up blanks gives me something to do in the shop when I don't feel like turning.

Thanks, guys! Actually, Coach, the bit drifted on me in the upper tube (finial end). If you look close, you'll see it. Next time I'll drill it BEFORE I cut it into smaller blanks and I'll probably use the lathe to do it like I do my bigger pens.
