This one is walnut with a two-tone celtic knot. I learned some lessons from my first pen and this one turned out even better.

Some of these pictures I took before assembly(obviously) Hope the other other angles help. I just started turning pens a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it! It is one of those things that I told myself for years that "one day" I will do it. Recently I decided that day was here. I have made only 6 pens so far but all of them unique and I have enjoyed making them.

Blanks

I do my own blanks. Actually the very first pen part I turned was from an oak branch outside on the ground. I ran it through the table saw to cut it down to 3/4 square and used that on the lathe as a practice piece to get the feel for the tools. I also experimented finishing techniques on it before trying it on the pen pictured above.

This is definitely a great hobby. I have found myself in the garage until 3am on a work night not realizing what time it was. I think I have an addiction. The pens are not perfect yet, but I hope I can get them there and with a lot of time in the shop and some great advice from the group.
