I signed up for a pen turning class at my local Rockler and think I may be hooked on another hobby

My first pen was the walnut body for a Manhattan, which I thought turned out beautifully, but doesn't contrast enough with the black & gold pen kit I had.
The second is canary wood. I'm very happy with how both turned out and am looking forward to trying some other kits.

Unfortunately the lathe I inherited is a rather old beast that does not have a Morris Chuck to allow for the insertion of a pen mandrel. So I'm looking for a starter lathe to do pen turning on. Any recommendations?

Very nice start Andy...as far as recommending a lathe if you ask 20 people you may get 30 answers:) I have a variable Rikon...had for 7 years and still love turning on it. And they have second to none customer service, which I've only needed once and it was my fault. They still sent me a new part for free.
