My wifes cousin asked me to make a pen for her husband from a piece of wood they picked up on a trip together. The pen/card holder is what it looked like and about 12" long. Luckily there was some spalting and a little knot or this would be a prety bland pen. Both ends were cracked with just enough in the middle to get a Baron out of it. I split one end to make the holders but thought I'd leave them natural except for a coat of spray deft. The holder is a surprise so I hope they like it.

Thanks.
Yeah it turned easy. I don't think its cherry, and it doesn't seem like pecan that I have turned but it could be apple.
The holder isn't weighted, but it's surprisingly stable. The two parts are attached, I turned a small maple dowell and epoxied everthing together.
