I got a very few pieces of this wood in some boxes of curly walnut from John Gerst a while back. This is the first I have used, on a black chrome cigar pen. Can anyone ID it for certain?

More photo's would help some....

After handling maybe ten thousand spalted pecan blanks last year alone, it's close.

Not pecan. Too hard and far too tight a grain. I thought perhaps honduran rosewood sapwood, but it's harder than most rosewood I've turned. The color may be spalting.
