Mystery Skid

This pen was made from an old skid that a got. I have no idea what kind of wood this is if any one has an idea i would like to know.
I was suprised at how great this wood turned out.
Black stripe clip and compound CB of 2 O-rings and an engraved black center band.

Pallets are commonly made from hickory, oak, mesquite, pine, fir... could be anything though, pallets are made out of whatever's going cheap.. I'd guess oak or mesquite though.. could be hickory.
