My Latest Cigar Pen

This is my latest cigar pen. I like the light color of the purple heart but I am thinking about playing around with some heat to darken portions of the pen.

Comments?

Is the color of the photo accurate? I have never seen purpleheart that looks that reddish.

Yes it is very close. Most of my other purple heart pens are a deep purple color, but this one turned out a light pink.

With time it will darken on it's own and eventually lose color and become brownish.

Hopefully not too dark. I put enough coats of sealer and polish on the wood that I am hoping to retain the color for a while.

Is there a document on suggested care for these pens? Something that I can hand out? It would be nice if there was an "offical" doc from this forum of suggestions for care of these pens.

Brian,
Put it in the sunlight. Purpleheart is photosensitive. It may not work, now that it is finished, I don't know. I haven't turned any yet, though I've had some for almost a year.

I knew that unfinished you could darken the color with sunlight or heat. I have done some designs with that. Not that it is sealed and finished, I am hopeing that it will retain the color.

I have seen some bowls and cups that were a year old that have not changed, so all I can do is hope.

hmm that gives me some ideas with purple heart and suntanning.

Nice pen, I don't really like the shape of it all that much but that color is pretty amazing. I would hope that it doesn't change too much with time.[8D]
