I have made five pens before from wood blanks and I really loved doing it. I used slimline kits for the first five. This is my sixth pen and the first made with a resin blank I picked up at Woodcraft. It also uses a "European" kit. This one is in brushed nickel hardware.
I have really enjoyed making this pen, but the resin this is made of is not like the PR I am used to. Might it be Alumilite? I don't know, but it smells different when turned, is much harder (tools dull on this stuff!) and does not chip out nearly as easily as the PR. Excellent material, but I definitely did not expect it to turn the way it did. I used my roughing and spindle gouges to round the work and get it close to desired dimension and then mostly used my skew.
