I won't be my last, I quite enjoyed making this one but I need to work on the "Ash" to get it a bit better.

Beautiful Cigar William.
Excellent Profile, and Proportions.
Superb Choice of Burl for the Blank.
The Ash has a Blue tinge to it, but apart from that it looks Terrific.
What Hardware did you build it around?
Congratulations.
Brian.

It was built on a Jr Gentlemen from Penkits Direct.

The photo was taken on my iPad with an LED light so I think the white balance is a bit off. I'll take another with my camera.

Michael, I didn't really follow the method either in the written or YouTube tutorials. I did all the turning on my metalwork lathe and used an ER32 collet chuck for much of the work. Without any grey Buckeye Burl I found the "Ash" difficult so try and source some if you can.

Hopefully these pictures from my DSLR are better.

I bought a packet of Cigar Labels on eBay but sadly most of them are not really long enough. If anyone knows where I can get some labels for cigars up to 20mm diameter please let me know.

I'm one of those who "preps" versus just jumping in.
I'm going to hit the cigar shop in town and talk to them, get some pictures, and hopefully make a customer/friend!

I've even planned wood for learning and messing up, but am having some challenge finding the buckeye... I'm sure it's out there...

thanks for the pics! Well done sir!

Do a google for "Cigar Ash" and save the pictures for reference Michael.
if it helps by the way my pen turned out at 19.8mm diameter and 156mm long.
I settled on Cellulose sanding sealer as a finish, three coats then gently rubbed down with grey Nyweb.

I like the sanding sealer as a finish for these... just enough to help the wood.

Yes, it brings out the grain nicely, protects the wood but isn't too shiny. The other nice thing is that it dries very quickly so putting on three coats takes no time at all. I generally dilute mine 50/50 with cellulose thinners.

For a finish, I use sanding through 240 then sanding sealer followed by Yorkshire Grit and finally Hampshire Sheen Original. Leaves a nice, natural look and feel.
