This is the first Acrylic Pen I was able to complete without the blank blowing out. I know I am new to pen turning but I have having a heck of a time with acrylic.

This Thin Blue Line pen was made using a Sierra pen kit from Lee Valley.

Wayne; Very nice pen!!

Acrylic blanks often blow out when the drill bit exits the blank. You can cut the blank long. Drill the blank only to the depth needed +1/8". Then trim the un-drilled end from the blank. Check out this Wiki article on Pen Blank Preparation. It is usually called Cut long, Drill short, Trim the end.

I have a sanding jig to trim blanks to final length and only rarely use a pen mill.

It looks good, a black blank was an ambitious move for beginning acrylics.
As an experienced turner and one who often uses acrylic, i still tend to stray away from Black as i find it difficult to hide imperfections and radial scratches.
