I was triply inspired by:
1) The Chordettes' incredible 1958 rendition of Pat Ballard's 1954 song Mr. Sandman, here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNUgsbKisp8
2) Tibetan sand painting techniques
3) Jimmy Clewe's synthetic sand

Steps:
Thin CA glue foam-brushed onto slimline tubes

Real colored beach sand sprinkled onto tubes using 3mm pipettes with "near" ends cut open to load the sand - $2.52 gets 100 pipettes (free shipping) look for these on Amazon:
Hot Sale Disposable 3ML Graduated Transfer Pipettes Eye Dropper Set 100 Pcs Plastic

Ranger dimensional glossy accents medium "drawn" onto base layer of real sand - also available on Amazon

Jimmy Clewe's synthetic sand drawn onto the glossy medium using pipettes

Slice of the Moon brand mica powders then sprinkled over all (remember the lyric: "Please turn on your magic beam")

Dried x 2 days, then cast in Douglas Sturgess PR, tube-in mold

Turned and finished as usual:

The local surfers (and other dreamers) are liking this - so more fun ahead.

Happy Wednesday, Bob

Very nice Bob. It reminded me I was suppose to try something like this a few years ago. I bought all the colored sand at Michaels crafts and never got around to it. Have to put it back on my to try list. Thanks for showing.

I love those Bob! Beautiful.

And, I like the "narrower" waist here as opposed to some of your previous pens (my preference only). The slight nib bulb I have always liked, but the center band I kind of like to be more of a smooth transition.

Your choice of music is excellent also.

Bob, you've gone and done it again! Gorgeous work! It really looks like an aged painting to me, some lost piece of artwork transformed into a pen. Your creativity knows no bounds. I see your draw is unconventional materials and the use of dyes. Great work!

Sincere thanks for kind words, John T., Rod, Kelly, Mark and Avi!

I used real sand as the base layer and synthetic sand as the outer layer to avoid dulling my skew, etc.

The Jimmy Clewe's sand and dimensional gloss medium turn and finish very nicely within the PR resin "matrix" (after curing for a couple of days) - opening up some more creative possibilities.

Many thanks for looking.

Yet Another Challenge Conquered, Bob.
Creating a Beautiful Blank, with a Great Process and Application.
Those Colours are Outstanding,
True "Eye Candy".
As with Mark, I also prefer the Narrower Waist, on the Slimline.
Excellent Fit and Finish.
Congratulations, What's next?
Brian.

Bob, that is a true work of artistic genius. Pollock couldn't have created a more original concept and execution. Keep that one...you'll be talking about it for years.
